Forensic Anthropology Casework Training

Aim & Scope of this training InternshipWithin a focused environment, you will work both independently and under supervision to complete forensic analysis of skeletons and you will be mentored closely in order to understand the process from beginning to end.
You will apply human identification methods for adult and subadult/juvenile skeletal remains. You will work with complete, incomplete and fragmentary skeletal cases. You will learn advance forensic anthropological methods and how to apply multiple methodological systems to better inform your decision on an aspect of human identification and the reconstruction of a biological profile. The training is designed to help you develop critical thinking skills and decision-making skills with regards to the use of various different advance methods and determine their application, validity and strength of interpretation. You will develop a suite of specialized skills that inform the process of analysis pertaining to forensic casework. This training is also designed to teach you the different levels of forensic significance and how it relates to law enforcement, the judicial system and group/community affiliations (e.g. NAGRPA, race disputes, and other minority group issues). |

This professional development training is open to students and professionals alike. Undergraduates with osteology background, postgraduate students (MA, MS, or PhD), recent graduates of all levels or professionals who wish to advance their applied forensic anthropology skills. Participants are expected to actively engage in the handling, postmortem processing and evaluation of human remains; conduct forensic casework (which may include rapid exhumation cases), and contribute towards our existing database as well as the repatriation of known and unknown individuals accordingly. There is a strong learning element through a model of supervised work and the primary objective is to help interns to develop strong professional skills in analytical osteology with direct bilateral applications in bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology respectively. All interns will be expected to participate in the discussion of cases and produce material for the diagnosis, interpretation and differentials of pathology and trauma.
